The trek was slated to kick off on March 26 in El Paso, Texas.

The highly anticipated Rage Against the Machine Public Service Announcement reunion tour has been postponed due to fears over the spreading COVID-19 pandemic. The outing, which was slated to kick off on March 26 with a show at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas, is now on hold until summer as the group joins hundreds of other acts in canceling or postponing concerts due to a growing urgency to avoid mass gatherings.

“Due to the current outbreak and ban on public gatherings we are postponing the first part of our tour (March 26th-May 20th) with Run the Jewels,” the band said in a statement. “The safety and health of those who come to our shows is of utmost importance to us.” The band said all previously purchased tickets will be honored for the rescheduled shows.

Just last month, the band added a trio of new dates to their August Madison Square Garden run in New York, pushing their total number of expected gigs at the iconic venue to five. The group announced in January that they were reuniting for the first time in a decade for a tour that would include headlining dates at the Coachella festival, which was moved from April to October earlier this week.

RATM join an ever-expanding list of dozens of tours and festivals that have pulled up stakes in an effort to control the virus, which at press time had exploded into 138,156 confirmed cases and resulted in 5,080 deaths, 36 of which occurred in the United States. As fears of transmission ramp up, AEG and Live Nation recommended all U.S. concerts be postponed through the end of March, even as Broadway shows go dark, along with all the major U.S. sports leagues.
