2021 American Music Awards Nominees Announced (R&B Edition)

The nominations for the 2021 American Music Awards have been announced.

The Weeknd leads among the R&B acts with six nominations, including Artist of the Year, Favorite Male R&B Artist and Favorite Music (“Save Your Tears”). He’s also the most-nominated male artist this year across all categories. 

R&B newcomer GivÄ“on trails right behind with five nominations, including New Artist of the Year, Favorite R&B Song (“Heartbreak Anniversary”) and Favorite R&B Album (When It’s All Said And Done… Take Time). 

Meanwhile, Chris Brown, H.E.R., Jazmine Sullivan, Silk Sonic and SZA are all up for three awards.

According to the American Music Awards, nominees are selected based on key fan interactions such as streaming, album sales, song sales and radio airplay. With assistance from Billboard and MRC Data, the measurements were tracked from Sept. 25, 2020, through Sept. 21, 2021.

The American Music Awards will air live on Sunday, Nov. 21, at 8 p.m. EST/PST on ABC.
